Underfunded and Overcrowded: The lack of hospitals, schools, and road maintenance in the desert

Mariana is currently a high school junior striving to make a difference in the world. She loves doing silly crafts like building cardboard marine animals and painting. She is very interested in the medical field and is currently volunteering at her local hospital while also balancing the many extracurricular activities and clubs she is in.

Mariana’s topic is about the lack of emergency services, schools, and road maintenance in the high desert. There are thousands of new residents moving in but what will happen in an emergency, where will their children get an education, and the roads are simply not made to handle so many people. She is concerned for not only herself but her community and the incoming residents.
